Celebrating a new Chapter: Grand Reopening

What a joyful day it was as we celebrated the grand reopening of our pantry! This milestone would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community and, as our Executive Director Jeff Gordon mentioned in his remarks, we are filled with gratitude for everyone who helped bring this vision to life.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 30 churches, numerous local businesses, volunteers, donors, and community partners whose generosity and dedication made this brighter, larger space possible. Together, you have helped create a welcoming place where we can better serve our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and hope for years to come.

Our celebration began with an opening prayer from The Rev. Will Berry of St James Episcopal Church, followed by recognition of the many stakeholders whose commitment made this project a reality. We were honored to receive our Wellness Pantry Certification from the Lowcountry Food Bank, a meaningful achievement that reflects our continued commitment to providing nutritious food and resources to those we serve.

Guests also heard inspiring remarks from our Pantry Captain, Marion Kaufman, reminding us how fortunate we are to be part of a community that comes together to serve. The program was made even more special with a moving dedication poem by the Poet Laureate of the Town of James Island, Victor Crouch, capturing the spirit of generosity, resilience, and hope that defines this new chapter.

The celebration concluded with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, officially opening the doors to our expanded pantry. Guests then enjoyed tours of the new facility while sharing fellowship over delicious food generously provided by Martin's BBQ.

As we look ahead, we are excited about the opportunities this new space creates to serve more families, offer additional resources, and strengthen the connections that make our community so special.

This grand reopening is not just a celebration of a new building—it is a celebration of what we can accomplish together. We look forward to welcoming our neighbors into this beautiful new space and continuing our mission of serving our community with compassion and care.
