Summer Food Drive
Summer is often seen as a time filled with an abundance of joy and fun: beach days, barbeques, and vacations. At James Island Outreach, we’ve seen firsthand that the summer months bring a drastic decrease in food donations. While school is out and routines shift, the demand for food assistance remains constant, and in many cases, it increases.
That’s why we’re proud to launch our Annual Summer Food Drive, and we’re calling on neighbors, businesses, and local organizations to join us in this important mission. At James Island Outreach, we firmly believe that every can count.
Whether it’s a can of soup tucked away in your pantry or a few extras you picked up during your weekly grocery run, your donation makes a difference. Each can contributes to a larger goal: keeping our shelves stocked and our community fed during the most challenging months of the year.
Many families who rely on school meal programs find it harder to make ends meet during the summer. With children home all day and grocery costs rising, access to food becomes even more critical. At the same time, food donations typically decline as people travel or focus on summer activities. This seasonal gap makes it harder for us to meet the ongoing need. That said, our goal is to reach 10,000 cans this summer.
